Lunchbox tips for wellbeing
Did you know that lunchboxes make up 30-40% of what school children eat Monday - Friday. Therefore it is a fabulous opportunity to create good habits and maintain positive wellbeing.
Start with thinking about including one item from each group – if that’s too much focus on one column over each week for the remainder of the term 😊 (source: The Root Cause)
QKR – electronic payment system
Do you love Condamine Cafes but struggle to find cash to pay for your order??? Don’t stress, we are currently setting up QKR for payments and ordering for Hospitality events, excursions, sports and activities at our school. You will still need to send signed permission forms to school but payments can be made using QKR.
Start by downloading the QKR app on your phone or iPad by searching in the app store.
Your profile will allow you to link a credit/debit card and you are ready. We are currently trialling this process with our staff so you may see our Condamine Coffee menu available. Unfortunately we are not able to specify menus to only certain groups.
Careers and Employment Expo
Twenty-two students, Mrs Diete and Mrs Power attended this event on Thursday. Thank you to the SDRC for sponsoring our transport and to WSHS for providing the venue.
Fundraiser for Cody
The 7/8 Hospitality class are conducting an event to raise some money to contribute to the fundraising efforts for Cody Iverson who is a past student for our school. As most of you know, Cody was in an accident and he is in hospital with his mum Muriel by his side.
Our event has 2 parts:
- Sweet Treat Boxes – A box containing 5x treats that may include items such as slices and muffins for $10. From each box we will donate $2 towards the fundraising organised by Cody’s family. Details for ordering the Sweet Treat boxes will be promoted on our school Facebook page. Pick up date will be Friday 6th
- Non-uniform day for our whole school - wear your jeans, your favourite country shirt and maybe your sunnies on Friday 6th On this day students will be able to make a gold coin donation for the privilege. Funds collected will be given to the fundraising efforts organised by Cody’s family.

Bullying no way – National Week of Action : 12-16th August
There are some subtle changes to the Anti Bullying day this year. It is now a week long “National Week of Action”. While we don’t need a special week to focus on anti-bullying this is a great reminder. The poster below outlines the importance of not being a bystander … be an UPSTANDER.
In recognition of Bullying No Way week we invite our school community to wear a splash of purple with your uniform on Monday 12/08/24.

All-School Athletics Carnival
What a fun day, we had yesterday, participating in the all-school athletics carnival. It was wonderful to see everyone having fun competing in two or more events and cheering on everyone else during their events. Congratulations to Harvey for winning Age Champion for 2012 boys and everyone else who won events yesterday. Due to everyone’s hard efforts we brought home the Warwick All-Schools Track and Field Average trophy again for the second time in the last two years. Many thanks to all competitors and we look for to a wonderful day next year.

2024 Career Expo
On Thursday 8th August a group of students from Yrs 7-10 attended a Careers Expo held in the new sports and performing arts hall at Warwick State High School. The students browsed the many employee stalls, gathering information about career path and employment opportunities (as well a variety of promotional materials and sugary incentivises). Thank you to Southern Downs Regional Council for assisting our students to participate in this valuable experience.
Year 7 Music
This semester, Year 7 Music students are studying a unit called Contemporary Classics where we learn about 'classical' music and how it is still relevant in popular culture today. We began this unit by learning about the Renaissance period in history and students were fortunate to be visited by local musician Lissa Rummery who brought in a variety of instruments used during this era including a celtic lap harp, bodhran drum and hammered dulcimer. Lissa demonstrated playing the instruments and students were given the opportunity to have a go at playing them also. Mrs Diete would like to thank Lissa for taking time out of her busy schedule to entertain and enlighten our Yr 7 musicians.
Year 9/10 AD&T
This year the year 10 Students constructed a metal brazier. Ebony, Jasminia, Jaydan and Cameron did extremely well and worked hard to complete the project. Next year we hope to have them completed and ready to go at the Killarney Bonfire night.
Attendance Recognition
Our attendance target is 95%. This means that on average each child has less than 1 day away per month.
Students, if you aren’t at school, chances are you are not keeping up with your class work. Be at school and Ready to Learn.
Effective school attendance has been linked to effective workplace attendance – set your child up for success.
Remember: Ready to Learn Every Day
What you can do to help:
1. You can assist your child to be at school on time and ready
to learn every day. The first bell is at 8:50am.
2. If your child arrives after 9:00am roll marking, they are to enter
the school via the office to record their late arrival and reason.
3. Before 9:00am, provide notification and a reason for
your child’s absence;
• via the office phone on 4664 6333,
• text the absence phone via 0428 196 801,
• via email absences@killarness.eq.edu.au,
• via a note to your child’s class teacher or
• in person to the class teacher
4. Respond to the text message you receive for a student who is away by confirming the absence and providing a reason.
Keep your contact details up-to-date with our office.
Being Ready to Learn Every Day really does make a difference! Is your child at school every day ready to learn?
“Be on time; be at school; that’s the rule.”
P&C News
Tuckshop Convenor
The P&C is looking for a parent or member of our community who would be interested in volunteering to be our Tuckshop Convenor. The opening times/day would be the choice of the new Convenor. The menu would also be the Tuckshop Convenor's choice, in negotiation with the school to comply with Healthy Choices guidelines. Please contact the P&C for further information or to express your interest by emailing: pandc@killarness.eq.edu.au.
How to order School Uniforms
New stocks of polo shirts have arrived so we now have all sizes available. Parents may now place a uniform order via email and pay by direct deposit! We hope this will make purchasing uniforms easier. Students can come and see Mrs Diete during break times to try on uniforms if they are unsure of sizes.
