School Opinion Surveys
The suite of School Opinion Surveys is undertaken each year by the Department of Education to obtain opinions about our school from families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11). The surveys will help identify what we are doing well, and understand where we can improve. The survey invitation will be emailed in the week beginning 15 July, closes 16 August and is titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2024.
Each school family will receive one email invitation from the Department of Education to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey. The survey is anonymous, and the results are reported in ways that an individual’s response can not be identified by the school.
Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to complete the survey. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with an internet connection.
For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
It’s important that as many parents/caregivers as possible complete the survey, so we would appreciate if members of this committee would raise awareness of this survey with other parents and caregivers.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
Kind regards
Melinda Barling

Athletics Carnival 2024
Killarney P-10 State School Athletics Carnival in the last week of term 2 was a true celebration of all that we do well at our school. Students demonstrated their learning of new and honed athletics skills, they participated with great sportsmanship and respectfully encouraged others to give their best.
The winner on the day was the valuing of our community being present from the noisy walk at the beginning of the day, students supporting our sporting house-Madsen and Chauvel, to individuals that encouraged others in events that they were not confident in to have a go. Lots of cheering and participation showed what a terrific day this is in the school calendar. Chauvel house was the champion house with the most points. Thanks to parents for attending and staff that organised and ran a very successful day.
Over the holidays, Toby was selected to participate at State School Championships for Rugby League. This carnival was held in Stanthorpe where Toby played second row. Toby played in the true spirit of Killarney, representing our school with pride and passion. As a result of Toby's never give up attitude and consistent hard work, he was awarded the Peter Wilson Player's Player medallion. We are all so proud of you Toby, congratulations on receiving such a momentous award.

NAIDOC Week
During NAIDOC Week, we encourage all families to take the opportunity to learn about First Nations histories and culture and the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Pop along to a community celebration or event and get to know our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Attendance Recognition
Our attendance target is 95%. This means that on average each child has less than 1 day away per month.
Students, if you aren’t at school, chances are you are not keeping up with your class work. Be at school and Ready to Learn.
Effective school attendance has been linked to effective workplace attendance – set your child up for success.
Remember: Ready to Learn Every Day
What you can do to help:
1. You can assist your child to be at school on time and ready
to learn every day. The first bell is at 8:50am.
2. If your child arrives after 9:00am roll marking, they are to enter
the school via the office to record their late arrival and reason.
3. Before 9:00am, provide notification and a reason for
your child’s absence;
• via the office phone on 4664 6333,
• text the absence phone via 0428 196 801,
• via email absences@killarness.eq.edu.au,
• via a note to your child’s class teacher or
• in person to the class teacher
4. Respond to the text message you receive for a student who is away by confirming the absence and providing a reason.
Keep your contact details up-to-date with our office.
Being Ready to Learn Every Day really does make a difference! Is your child at school every day ready to learn?
“Be on time; be at school; that’s the rule.”
P&C News
Tuckshop Convenor
The P&C is looking for a parent or member of our community who would be interested in volunteering to be our Tuckshop Convenor. The opening times/day would be the choice of the new Convenor. The menu would also be the Tuckshop Convenor's choice, in negotiation with the school to comply with Healthy Choices guidelines. Please contact the P&C for further information or to express your interest by emailing: pandc@killarness.eq.edu.au.
How to order School Uniforms
New stocks of polo shirts have arrived so we now have all sizes available. Parents may now place a uniform order via email and pay by direct deposit! We hope this will make purchasing uniforms easier. Students can come and see Mrs Diete during break times to try on uniforms if they are unsure of sizes.
