Thank you
A big thank you to the Osborne family for the recent donation of books to our school. We were also lucky to receive another book donation from a past teacher who was passing through our town. #welovereading
Canberra Trip
In the last week of Term 3 I accompanied some of our Year 10 students to Canberra. After many ventures to Canberra in a bus, catching a plane was definitely different.
We experienced the Australian War Memorial, associated commemorative displays and we were part of a very moving Last Post Ceremony. Parliament House was particularly busy as all of the politicians were in residence ready for parliament to sit, and we were lucky enough to catch up with Mr David Littleproud as a result. The view from Mount Ainslie never disappoints even in a chilly wind. The National Museum and National Galleries always spark interest, and sometimes a little amusement, and a new attraction was the National Zoo and Aquarium that proved to be quite popular with the students.
Thank you Will, Josh, Cam, Eb and Oscar – your banter and always unique insight into the world around us was very much appreciated.
Year 10 to 11 Transition to WSHS
Students transitioning to Warwick State High School for Year 11 in 2025 have received a permission letter for the final transition excursion on Wednesday 16th October.

Every Student Engaged and Succeeding
Valuing community
Each week we will continue to ‘draw’ the name of one of our families from the ‘hat’. Thank you to the Killarney Co-op for putting some amazing fruit/veg trays together for us each week to share with our families.
PBL update
We are currently working with our Regional Principal Advisor for PBL to complete our required training. Many of our staff and students met Mrs Buckland on Wednesday this week, and shared their thoughts and knowledges around PBL at Killarney P-10 with her. She noted that we have a lovely school and the students are polite and respectful 😊
PBL intentions Term 4 :
Week 1 – Know and respect what privacy means – including online
Week 2 – Persist and persevere
Week 3 – Recognise diversity
Week 4 – Listen to understand
Week 5 – Be Killarnians with pride
Kind regards

SDRC - Logo Design Competition
Earlier this year, Abby (Year 4) was announced the winner of a logo design competition run by the Southern Downs Regional Council. Councillor Joel Ritchers visited the class to celebrate Abby’s achievement and explained that her logo would be used on council ‘merch’ promoting the ‘sort your waste’ message with a view to reducing landfill.
This week, Abby and her classmates have each received a promotional item featuring Abby’s design! Many thanks to Councillor Ritchers for delivering these to the school for the students.
Did you know that in the SDRC, the average household produces over 17 kg of waste per week, which is collected by council? Within this 17kg, there is 13.5 kg of general waste (destined for landfill) and 3.7 kg separated as recycling. A further 2 kg of recycling can be found within the general waste which, if sorted, would decrease our landfill … 2 kg per house per week – that’s a lot!
Art Space
We are very excited that our all weather learning area extending our Arts Centre is finished. Below are some before and after photos
Attendance Recognition
Our attendance target is 95%. This means that on average each child has less than 1 day away per month.
Students, if you aren’t at school, chances are you are not keeping up with your class work. Be at school and Ready to Learn.
Effective school attendance has been linked to effective workplace attendance – set your child up for success.
Remember: Ready to Learn Every Day
What you can do to help:
1. You can assist your child to be at school on time and ready
to learn every day. The first bell is at 8:50am.
2. If your child arrives after 9:00am roll marking, they are to enter
the school via the office to record their late arrival and reason.
3. Before 9:00am, provide notification and a reason for
your child’s absence;
• via the office phone on 4664 6333,
• text the absence phone via 0428 196 801,
• via email absences@killarness.eq.edu.au,
• via a note to your child’s class teacher or
• in person to the class teacher
4. Respond to the text message you receive for a student who is away by confirming the absence and providing a reason.
Keep your contact details up-to-date with our office.
Being Ready to Learn Every Day really does make a difference! Is your child at school every day ready to learn?
“Be on time; be at school; that’s the rule.”

Tuckshop Convenor
The P&C is looking for a parent or member of our community who would be interested in volunteering to be our Tuckshop Convenor. The opening times/day would be the choice of the new Convenor. The menu would also be the Tuckshop Convenor's choice, in negotiation with the school to comply with Healthy Choices guidelines. Please contact the P&C for further information or to express your interest by emailing: pandc@killarness.eq.edu.au.
How to order School Uniforms
New stocks of polo shirts have arrived so we now have all sizes available. Parents may now place a uniform order via email and pay by direct deposit! We hope this will make purchasing uniforms easier. Students can come and see Mrs Diete during break times to try on uniforms if they are unsure of sizes.
